Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chief Sunday Adewusi, is reported dead.
According to Daily Sun reports, Mr Adewusi died on Tuesday, January 26, around 8.30 p.m at the National Hospital, Area 11, Abuja.
Confirming his death on Tuesday night, erstwhile governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala said the late police chief was a gallant officer who served Nigeria with commitment and dedication.
“The Asiwaju of Ogbmosho, Chief Sunday Adewusi, is a father who, in no small way, contributed to my success in life.The late Adewusi, who was the Asiwaju of Ogbomoso, was born in the Nassarawa Eggon local government area of Nassarawa State, on December 6, 1936, to the family of Pa Abraham Ishola Adeyinka Adewusi and Princess Eyiolawi Abeje.
“He is a rare officer and boss who served Nigerian police force gallantly. His contribution to the image of police is still a reference point up till today. He will be sorely missed by the police, Ogbomosoland, Oyo State and Nigeria in general,” he said.
He succeeded Adamu Suleiman as the Inspector General of Police between 1981 and 1983 and was also succeeded by Etim Inyang.
